Knee Pain in Alwar

What Alwar patients should know

Knee consultations in Alwar fall into two groups: younger patients from Alwar city, Bhiwadi, Neemrana and Behror with twisting injuries such as meniscus and ACL tears, and older patients with arthritis. For the first group the twice-monthly OPD matters: an MRI advised at one session can be reviewed at the next, two weeks later, instead of a month later.

Patients come from Bhiwadi, Behror, Tijara, Rajgarh, Kishangarh Bas and across Alwar district

150 km to Jaipur for surgery · approx. 3 hours by road

When to get knee pain checked

  • Knee pain that wakes you at night or continues at rest
  • The knee locks, catches or will not fully straighten
  • The knee gives way when turning or on uneven ground
  • Swelling that keeps coming back
  • A bow-leg or knock-knee that is visibly getting worse

Emergency: A hot, red, swollen knee with fever, or a knee you cannot bear weight on after an injury, needs the nearest hospital the same day.

Common Causes

What usually causes knee pain

Knee pain is the most common reason patients see an orthopedic surgeon. In most adults over 45 it is osteoarthritis; in younger, active people it is more often a meniscus or ligament injury. The right treatment depends entirely on which it is, and the majority of knee pain is managed without an operation.

1

Osteoarthritis

Gradual wear of the joint cartilage. Pain on stairs and when getting up from a chair, morning stiffness, difficulty sitting on the floor, and often a slowly increasing bow-leg.

2

Meniscus tear

From a twisting injury in younger people, or degeneration in older knees. Pain along the joint line, catching or locking, and swelling the day after activity.

3

Ligament injury (ACL, PCL)

A twist with a pop and rapid swelling, followed by a knee that gives way on turning or on uneven ground. Often walked off at the time and only noticed later.

4

Kneecap (patellofemoral) pain

Pain at the front of the knee on stairs, squatting or after sitting for long. Common in younger women and in people who have recently increased training.

5

Post-traumatic and inflammatory arthritis

An old fracture into the joint, or rheumatoid arthritis, can wear the knee out earlier than normal and changes how it should be treated.

Treatment

How knee pain is treated

Step 1

Treatment without surgery

Tried first, and enough for most patients.

  • Quadriceps and hip strengthening exercises, the most effective non-surgical treatment for knee arthritis
  • Weight reduction where relevant: every kilo lost takes several kilos of load off the knee
  • Structured physiotherapy for meniscus, ligament and kneecap problems
  • Short courses of medicine for flare-ups, with long-term painkiller use reviewed
  • Injections in selected cases, with their limits explained honestly

Step 2

When surgery is genuinely needed

Advised only when non-surgical treatment has been properly tried, or the problem will not heal without it.

If Surgery Is Advised

Consult locally, operate in Jaipur, follow up locally

Alwar is only about 150 km from Jaipur on NH-48, with frequent trains and buses, so surgery in Jaipur is an easy same-day journey, and the twice-monthly OPD covers consultation, pre-operative planning and follow-up locally.

1

Consult Dr. Agrawal at the Alwar OPD

Personal examination by Dr. Agrawal, review of your X-rays or MRI, and a clear written opinion on whether surgery is actually needed, at Chopra Orthopedic Hospital, every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month. No travel to Jaipur required for this step.

2

Surgery in Jaipur, by the same surgeon

If surgery is advised, Dr. Agrawal performs it himself in Jaipur at Narayana Hospital or Orthoklinik, Pratap Nagar. Admission, implant selection and insurance paperwork are arranged in advance so the trip is a single planned visit.

3

Follow-up back in Alwar

Post-operative review, suture removal, physiotherapy guidance and implant checks happen at the next Alwar OPD, so recovery does not mean repeated long-distance travel.

FAQ

Knee Pain in Alwar: common questions

Where can I get knee pain treated in Alwar?+

Dr. Hemendra Agrawal assesses knee pain at his Alwar OPD at Chopra Orthopedic Hospital, every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The consultation covers examination, review of your X-rays or MRI, and a written plan. If surgery is needed, it is performed in Jaipur at Narayana Hospital or Orthoklinik, 183/82, Rana Sanga Marg, Sector 18, Pratap Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302033.

I twisted my knee playing sport and it is still swollen. Should I wait, or get an MRI first?+

If the knee swelled up within hours, gives way, or locks, get it examined at the Alwar OPD rather than waiting for it to settle. You will be told whether an MRI is actually needed. With sessions on the 2nd and 4th Thursday, the MRI can be reviewed at the next OPD and, if an ACL or meniscus repair is needed, surgery planned in Jaipur.

Does knee pain always mean I will need a knee replacement?+

No. Most knee pain, including most early and moderate arthritis, is managed with strengthening exercises, weight management, physiotherapy and sensible use of medicines. Replacement is advised only when the X-ray shows advanced arthritis and the pain limits daily life despite proper non-surgical treatment.

What tests are needed for knee pain?+

A standing (weight-bearing) X-ray of both knees is usually the first and most useful test for arthritis. An MRI is mainly needed when a meniscus or ligament injury is suspected, typically in younger patients after a twisting injury. It is rarely needed to diagnose arthritis.

Are knee injections worth trying?+

A steroid injection can settle an arthritis flare for weeks to a few months, but frequent repeated injections are not recommended. Other injections have mixed evidence. Whether an injection makes sense for your knee, and what it can and cannot do, is explained before anything is given.

Do I need an appointment for knee pain at the Alwar OPD?+

Yes, it is strongly recommended. The Alwar OPD runs on fixed days each month and slots are limited. Call or WhatsApp +91 92106 96045 to book, and bring all X-rays, MRI reports and prescriptions related to your knee pain.
