Back Pain in Alwar

What Alwar patients should know

Factory shift work and long commutes across the Bhiwadi, Neemrana and Behror industrial belt bring many younger Alwar patients with back pain from prolonged sitting or standing. The Alwar OPD separates simple mechanical pain, managed with exercises and changes at work, from disc and nerve problems; where spine surgery is genuinely needed, you are referred to a spine surgeon rather than treated outside the specialty.

Patients come from Bhiwadi, Behror, Tijara, Rajgarh, Kishangarh Bas and across Alwar district

150 km to Jaipur for surgery · approx. 3 hours by road

When to get back pain checked

  • Leg pain below the knee lasting more than six weeks
  • Weakness in the leg or foot, or difficulty lifting the toes
  • Back pain after a fall in an older person
  • Back pain with fever, unexplained weight loss or a history of cancer
  • Night pain that does not ease with rest or change of position

Emergency: Loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin and buttocks, is an emergency: go to the nearest hospital immediately.

Common Causes

What usually causes back pain

Most back pain is mechanical, from strained muscles and ligaments or age-related wear in the spine, and it settles with time, activity and the right exercises. The orthopedic consultation is about finding the minority of cases that need more: an osteoporotic fracture, a trapped nerve, or pain that is actually coming from the hip. Dr. Agrawal is a joint replacement and arthroscopy surgeon, not a spine surgeon: if spine surgery is needed, you will be told so and referred to a spine specialist.

1

Mechanical back strain

Pain in the lower back after lifting, bending or long hours sitting or driving. The most common cause, and it usually improves within weeks.

2

Disc problems and sciatica

Pain running from the back down the leg, often below the knee, sometimes with tingling or numbness. Most settles without surgery.

3

Osteoporotic compression fracture

Sudden back pain in an older person after a minor fall, lifting or even a cough. Often missed, and a warning sign that the bones need treatment.

4

Hip arthritis mistaken for back pain

Pain around the buttock and thigh that is actually from the hip joint. Treating the back will not help; the hip needs assessing.

5

Posture and occupational strain

Repeated bending, heavy lifting, tractor driving and prolonged standing load the spine. Changing how the work is done often matters more than medicine.

Treatment

How back pain is treated

Step 1

Treatment without surgery

Tried first, and enough for most patients.

  • Staying active: bed rest slows recovery from most back pain
  • Core-strengthening and flexibility exercises with a physiotherapist
  • Short courses of pain medicine to allow movement
  • Lifting technique, posture and work adjustments
  • Bone density assessment and osteoporosis treatment where fractures are suspected

Step 2

When surgery is genuinely needed

Advised only when non-surgical treatment has been properly tried, or the problem will not heal without it.

Spine surgery for disc prolapse, canal stenosis or instability is not performed here. Where it is needed, you will be referred to a spine surgeon.

If Surgery Is Advised

Consult locally, operate in Jaipur, follow up locally

Alwar is only about 150 km from Jaipur on NH-48, with frequent trains and buses, so surgery in Jaipur is an easy same-day journey, and the twice-monthly OPD covers consultation, pre-operative planning and follow-up locally.

1

Consult Dr. Agrawal at the Alwar OPD

Personal examination by Dr. Agrawal, review of your X-rays or MRI, and a clear written opinion on whether surgery is actually needed, at Chopra Orthopedic Hospital, every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month. No travel to Jaipur required for this step.

2

Surgery in Jaipur, by the same surgeon

If surgery is advised, Dr. Agrawal performs it himself in Jaipur at Narayana Hospital or Orthoklinik, Pratap Nagar. Admission, implant selection and insurance paperwork are arranged in advance so the trip is a single planned visit.

3

Follow-up back in Alwar

Post-operative review, suture removal, physiotherapy guidance and implant checks happen at the next Alwar OPD, so recovery does not mean repeated long-distance travel.

FAQ

Back Pain in Alwar: common questions

Where can I get back pain treated in Alwar?+

Dr. Hemendra Agrawal assesses back pain at his Alwar OPD at Chopra Orthopedic Hospital, every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The consultation covers examination, review of your X-rays or MRI, and a written plan. If surgery is needed, it is performed in Jaipur at Narayana Hospital or Orthoklinik, 183/82, Rana Sanga Marg, Sector 18, Pratap Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302033.

Will Dr. Agrawal operate on my spine if I consult at the Alwar OPD?+

No. Spine surgery is not performed here. At the Alwar OPD your back pain is assessed to find the cause, mechanical pain and osteoporotic fractures are managed, and hip problems that mimic back pain are identified. If you need spine surgery, you will be referred to a spine surgeon.

Do I need an MRI for back pain?+

Usually not at first. Most back pain improves within a few weeks, and MRI often shows age-related changes that are not causing the pain. An MRI is useful when there is leg weakness, pain running below the knee that is not settling, or warning signs such as fever or weight loss.

Does Dr. Agrawal perform spine surgery?+

No. Dr. Agrawal is a joint replacement, arthroscopy and trauma surgeon. He assesses back pain to find the cause, manages mechanical pain and osteoporotic fractures, and identifies when the hip rather than the spine is the problem. If you need spine surgery, you will be told plainly and referred to a spine specialist.

Should I rest in bed with back pain?+

No. For most back pain, staying gently active speeds recovery, while prolonged bed rest weakens the muscles and slows it down. Short periods of rest during a bad flare are fine, followed by a gradual return to walking and normal activity.

Do I need an appointment for back pain at the Alwar OPD?+

Yes, it is strongly recommended. The Alwar OPD runs on fixed days each month and slots are limited. Call or WhatsApp +91 92106 96045 to book, and bring all X-rays, MRI reports and prescriptions related to your back pain.
