Back Pain in Sri Ganganagar
What Sri Ganganagar patients should know
Long hours on a tractor, bending at harvest and lifting sacks are a large part of working life around Sri Ganganagar, and so is back pain. Most of it is mechanical and improves with the right exercises and lifting habits, which the Anand Hospital OPD explains in plain terms. The consultation also checks for the smaller group whose pain comes from a trapped nerve, a fragility fracture, or the hip.
Patients come from Padampur, Karanpur, Sadulshahar, Raisinghnagar, Anupgarh and across Sri Ganganagar district
450 km to Jaipur for surgery · approx. 8–9 hours by road
When to get back pain checked
- Leg pain below the knee lasting more than six weeks
- Weakness in the leg or foot, or difficulty lifting the toes
- Back pain after a fall in an older person
- Back pain with fever, unexplained weight loss or a history of cancer
- Night pain that does not ease with rest or change of position
Emergency: Loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin and buttocks, is an emergency: go to the nearest hospital immediately.
Common Causes
What usually causes back pain
Most back pain is mechanical, from strained muscles and ligaments or age-related wear in the spine, and it settles with time, activity and the right exercises. The orthopedic consultation is about finding the minority of cases that need more: an osteoporotic fracture, a trapped nerve, or pain that is actually coming from the hip. Dr. Agrawal is a joint replacement and arthroscopy surgeon, not a spine surgeon: if spine surgery is needed, you will be told so and referred to a spine specialist.
Mechanical back strain
Pain in the lower back after lifting, bending or long hours sitting or driving. The most common cause, and it usually improves within weeks.
Disc problems and sciatica
Pain running from the back down the leg, often below the knee, sometimes with tingling or numbness. Most settles without surgery.
Osteoporotic compression fracture
Sudden back pain in an older person after a minor fall, lifting or even a cough. Often missed, and a warning sign that the bones need treatment.
Hip arthritis mistaken for back pain
Pain around the buttock and thigh that is actually from the hip joint. Treating the back will not help; the hip needs assessing.
Posture and occupational strain
Repeated bending, heavy lifting, tractor driving and prolonged standing load the spine. Changing how the work is done often matters more than medicine.
Treatment
How back pain is treated
Step 1
Treatment without surgery
Tried first, and enough for most patients.
- Staying active: bed rest slows recovery from most back pain
- Core-strengthening and flexibility exercises with a physiotherapist
- Short courses of pain medicine to allow movement
- Lifting technique, posture and work adjustments
- Bone density assessment and osteoporosis treatment where fractures are suspected
Step 2
When surgery is genuinely needed
Advised only when non-surgical treatment has been properly tried, or the problem will not heal without it.
Spine surgery for disc prolapse, canal stenosis or instability is not performed here. Where it is needed, you will be referred to a spine surgeon.

If Surgery Is Advised
Consult locally, operate in Jaipur, follow up locally
Sri Ganganagar is roughly 450 km from Jaipur via Sikar–Churu–Hanumangarh, and is connected to Jaipur by direct trains, which is exactly why the monthly OPD exists: consultation, diagnosis and post-surgery follow-up happen locally, so the trip to Jaipur is only needed for the surgery itself.
Consult Dr. Agrawal at the Sri Ganganagar OPD
Personal examination by Dr. Agrawal, review of your X-rays or MRI, and a clear written opinion on whether surgery is actually needed, at Anand Hospital, every 3rd Thursday of the month. No travel to Jaipur required for this step.
Surgery in Jaipur, by the same surgeon
If surgery is advised, Dr. Agrawal performs it himself in Jaipur at Narayana Hospital or Orthoklinik, Pratap Nagar. Admission, implant selection and insurance paperwork are arranged in advance so the trip is a single planned visit.
Follow-up back in Sri Ganganagar
Post-operative review, suture removal, physiotherapy guidance and implant checks happen at the next Sri Ganganagar OPD, so recovery does not mean repeated long-distance travel.

FAQ
Back Pain in Sri Ganganagar: common questions
Where can I get back pain treated in Sri Ganganagar?+
Dr. Hemendra Agrawal assesses back pain at his Sri Ganganagar OPD at Anand Hospital, every 3rd Thursday of the month, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. The consultation covers examination, review of your X-rays or MRI, and a written plan. If surgery is needed, it is performed in Jaipur at Narayana Hospital or Orthoklinik, 183/82, Rana Sanga Marg, Sector 18, Pratap Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302033.
My back pain started after harvest season. Should I come to the Sri Ganganagar OPD or wait?+
Most back pain after heavy work settles within a few weeks with gentle activity. Come to the Sri Ganganagar OPD if it has not improved after four to six weeks, if pain runs below the knee, if the leg feels weak, or if the pain is worse at night. Bring any X-rays or MRI you already have.
Do I need an MRI for back pain?+
Usually not at first. Most back pain improves within a few weeks, and MRI often shows age-related changes that are not causing the pain. An MRI is useful when there is leg weakness, pain running below the knee that is not settling, or warning signs such as fever or weight loss.
Does Dr. Agrawal perform spine surgery?+
No. Dr. Agrawal is a joint replacement, arthroscopy and trauma surgeon. He assesses back pain to find the cause, manages mechanical pain and osteoporotic fractures, and identifies when the hip rather than the spine is the problem. If you need spine surgery, you will be told plainly and referred to a spine specialist.
Should I rest in bed with back pain?+
No. For most back pain, staying gently active speeds recovery, while prolonged bed rest weakens the muscles and slows it down. Short periods of rest during a bad flare are fine, followed by a gradual return to walking and normal activity.
Do I need an appointment for back pain at the Sri Ganganagar OPD?+
Yes, it is strongly recommended. The Sri Ganganagar OPD runs on fixed days each month and slots are limited. Call or WhatsApp +91 92106 96045 to book, and bring all X-rays, MRI reports and prescriptions related to your back pain.
