Hip Pain in Sri Ganganagar

What Sri Ganganagar patients should know

Hip problems often reach the Sri Ganganagar OPD late, because groin and thigh pain is easy to mistake for a back or nerve problem and gets treated as one. If you have been limping, cannot sit cross-legged or find it hard to put on socks, an X-ray of the pelvis brought to the Anand Hospital OPD usually settles the question in a single visit.

Patients come from Padampur, Karanpur, Sadulshahar, Raisinghnagar, Anupgarh and across Sri Ganganagar district

450 km to Jaipur for surgery · approx. 8–9 hours by road

When to get hip pain checked

  • Groin or front-of-thigh pain when walking or standing up
  • Difficulty putting on socks or shoes, or cutting toenails
  • A limp, or one leg looking shorter than the other
  • New hip pain after a course of steroid medicines
  • Hip pain that disturbs sleep

Emergency: An elderly person who falls and then cannot stand or bear weight may have a hip fracture and needs the nearest hospital the same day.

Common Causes

What usually causes hip pain

True hip joint pain is usually felt in the groin or the front of the thigh, not the buttock. Pain at the back of the hip often comes from the lower back instead. Getting that distinction right is the first job of the consultation, because hip arthritis, avascular necrosis (AVN) and a missed hip fracture each need a different and often time-sensitive plan.

1

Hip osteoarthritis

Groin pain on walking, stiffness putting on socks and shoes, and difficulty sitting cross-legged. It progresses gradually, often over years.

2

Avascular necrosis (AVN)

Loss of blood supply to the ball of the hip, most often in adults aged 25 to 50. Linked to steroid medicines and heavy alcohol use. Early diagnosis keeps more options open.

3

Fracture that has not united

A hip fracture in an older patient treated with bed rest only, or fixation that has failed. These can usually still be treated, often with a hip replacement.

4

Inflammatory arthritis

Ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis can damage the hip at a younger age and are managed together with a rheumatologist.

5

Pain referred from the spine, or bursitis

Buttock pain spreading down the leg is often from the back; pain on the outer side of the hip when lying on it is often bursitis. Neither is hip arthritis.

Treatment

How hip pain is treated

Step 1

Treatment without surgery

Tried first, and enough for most patients.

  • Activity modification and a walking stick held in the opposite hand
  • Physiotherapy to keep hip movement and strengthen the muscles around it
  • Weight management to reduce load through the joint
  • Medicines for pain, with long-term use reviewed for safety
  • In early AVN, close monitoring with MRI and joint-preserving options where suitable

Step 2

When surgery is genuinely needed

Advised only when non-surgical treatment has been properly tried, or the problem will not heal without it.

If Surgery Is Advised

Consult locally, operate in Jaipur, follow up locally

Sri Ganganagar is roughly 450 km from Jaipur via Sikar–Churu–Hanumangarh, and is connected to Jaipur by direct trains, which is exactly why the monthly OPD exists: consultation, diagnosis and post-surgery follow-up happen locally, so the trip to Jaipur is only needed for the surgery itself.

1

Consult Dr. Agrawal at the Sri Ganganagar OPD

Personal examination by Dr. Agrawal, review of your X-rays or MRI, and a clear written opinion on whether surgery is actually needed, at Anand Hospital, every 3rd Thursday of the month. No travel to Jaipur required for this step.

2

Surgery in Jaipur, by the same surgeon

If surgery is advised, Dr. Agrawal performs it himself in Jaipur at Narayana Hospital or Orthoklinik, Pratap Nagar. Admission, implant selection and insurance paperwork are arranged in advance so the trip is a single planned visit.

3

Follow-up back in Sri Ganganagar

Post-operative review, suture removal, physiotherapy guidance and implant checks happen at the next Sri Ganganagar OPD, so recovery does not mean repeated long-distance travel.

FAQ

Hip Pain in Sri Ganganagar: common questions

Where can I get hip pain treated in Sri Ganganagar?+

Dr. Hemendra Agrawal assesses hip pain at his Sri Ganganagar OPD at Anand Hospital, every 3rd Thursday of the month, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. The consultation covers examination, review of your X-rays or MRI, and a written plan. If surgery is needed, it is performed in Jaipur at Narayana Hospital or Orthoklinik, 183/82, Rana Sanga Marg, Sector 18, Pratap Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302033.

My hip pain was treated as a back problem for months. How will the Sri Ganganagar OPD tell the difference?+

By examining both the hip and the spine and reviewing an X-ray of the pelvis. Pain that comes from the hip joint is reproduced by rotating the hip and is typically felt in the groin and thigh. If the hip is the cause, you will know at the OPD, along with what stage it has reached and what the options are.

How do I know whether my pain is coming from the hip or the back?+

Hip joint pain is typically in the groin or front of the thigh and worse on walking and turning the leg. Back pain more often sits in the buttock and lower back and may run down the back of the leg. A clinical examination, rotating the hip and checking the spine, together with an X-ray of the pelvis, usually settles it.

What is AVN of the hip and how urgent is it?+

Avascular necrosis is death of bone in the ball of the hip due to loss of blood supply. It is time-sensitive: before the ball collapses, joint-preserving options may still be possible; after collapse, hip replacement is usually needed. If you have been diagnosed with AVN, have it assessed promptly rather than waiting for the pain to worsen.

Is hip replacement a major operation? How long is recovery?+

It is a planned operation with a hospital stay of a few days. Most patients walk with support within a day or two, use a walker or stick for some weeks, and return to normal daily activity over a few months. The exact plan depends on your age, health and the reason for surgery.

Do I need an appointment for hip pain at the Sri Ganganagar OPD?+

Yes, it is strongly recommended. The Sri Ganganagar OPD runs on fixed days each month and slots are limited. Call or WhatsApp +91 92106 96045 to book, and bring all X-rays, MRI reports and prescriptions related to your hip pain.
